What a Difference a Year Makes

Dear Vivi -

One year ago today,  Daddy and I sat in a meeting.  It was a transformational meeting with an adoption agency.  They talked to us all about the wonderful children of China who need a home just because they were born a little different.  A little special.

When we left that meeting, we got in the car and drove home, talking about what we had just learned.  I don't think it took us more than ten minutes to turn to each other and say, "This is the path we are supposed to go."  We both felt so clearly that God was calling us to come and get our daughter in China.

Now we know he was directing us to you.

And now, one year later, we are soooo close to coming and getting you.  So close, and yet you still feel 7000 miles away. There aren't that many more steps we can take.  We've started setting things aside that we will take with us. We've prepared the gifts we're going to take to thank the people in your life who have cared for you.  We are readying our house to be lived in by grandparents while we go and bring you home.  We are preparing our hearts for you.

We know that you are not prepared for the big changes that will happen in your life over the next few months.  There isn't any way that you can be, even if you foster family shows you our pictures and talks about us every day.  We know that these next few months are going to be challenging for you, even more so than us.  Our prayer now is that God will open that little heart of yours to the new life that is before you.  That the sadness will pass quickly, and that joy will prevail.  That you will always remember the love of your foster family and your birth mother, and know how treasured you were.

And finally, that you will come to know how treasured you are now.

One year ago today, you were a dream.  In January, you became a face.  Sometime in the next 8 weeks, you will become a real girl.

Thank you, God, for answered prayers.

Love,
Mommy and Daddy
